This is the saddest thing I've ever had to blog about. This is Pettis's last day with us as a family. He has been in a lot of pain for quite some time but the last few weeks was getting worse. Elan has had to carry him up the stairs because it was to hard to run up. He also began to cry in the garage so that we would open the door to let him in. He was unable to make it through the doggy door. This particular morning I was busy talking to a neighbor and their 18 month old daughter was over by Pettis. I assume she crawled on his hips and this made him react. The baby is fine but this made us realize that this is not a safe situation any longer. We were forced to make the hardest decision we have ever made. So, we had 4 more great hours together.
Elan came home from work and we pulled Adarius out of pre-school so we could take Pettis up to the mountains on his favorite hike. He got to run up and down the hills and through the trees. He even managed to find himself a few mud puddles. I normally would be thinking about what a mess this is going to be but today it didn't matter. It was great to see him enjoy himself. I know he loved every minute of it! We did too! We chose not to tell Adarius until after the hike. This was sooooo hard for us. His little heart was broken. He just didn't quite understand.
Lots and lots of family pictures were taken with Pettis! We will never forget you and you will remain in our hearts forever!! You were such a sweet, loving, and funny dog. We love you Pettis!!!
Saying goodbye to Zoe!
